Setting up eduroam for MacOS devices


Introductory note: We cannot guarantee that this process will work for all MacOS versions, especially systems that are not supported by the manufacturer. Please make sure that the operating system you are using is up to date and (still) supported by the manufacturer. (Further information on this: endoflife.date(externe Website)


If you are not carrying out an initial installation but are adapting your configuration as part of the eduroam changeover, you must first remove the existing remove the existing profile (see point 7) and then follow the same procedure as for a new installation. The prerequisite for this is access to the Internet - for example via the @BayernWLAN or via your mobile network operator (e.g. mobile hotspot).

1. go to System settings → WLAN and check whether „eduroam ®“ can be found under „Known networks“. If this is the case, click on the three dots and then on „Ignore this network …“:

2. open the page https://cat.eduroam.org in the browser of your choice and click on the button „Click here to download your eduroam® installation programme“:

3. „Enter „Landshut“ in the search bar and click on the organisation „Landshut University of Applied Sciences“:

4. click on the „eduroam“ button to download the installation programme“

5. go to the „Downloads“ folder in the Finder programme and double-click on the „eduroam-OS_X-Hochschule_Landshut.mobileconfig“ file that you have just downloaded in order to run it.

6. you should now see the following message:

7. open the system settings, search for „Profiles“ and select this entry.

If other profiles with the name „eduroam“ appear here, you can remove them using the „-“, as this may be an outdated configuration.

8. double-click on the „eduroam®“ profile to check it.

9. you should now see the following window. Please click on the „Install …“ button here:

10. in the next step, click on the „Continue“ button:

11. enter your username & password (identical to the access data in the SSO portal or Moodle):

12. enter the administrator password of your MacOS device, or use another authentication method available on your device:

13. it should now look like this or similar in the system settings under „Profiles“ and a connection to the „eduroam ®“ network should be possible:

If it is still not possible to connect to „eduroam ®“, please remove the stored access data for „eduroam“ (see step 1), if this does not work, try to set a new password via the „SSO portal“ and try again.

Once the access data has been removed, you have the option of entering it again when you try to connect to „eduroam“.
