Application for an SMIME certificate
Introductory note:
These instructions apply only to staff at HaW Landshut. Students not the option to apply for an S/MIME certificate.
University staff should apply for a digital certificate for signing and encrypting emails. The process for obtaining such a user certificate is described in detail below.
Application:
1. Log in to SSO-Portal .
2. Click on the „Email Certificates“ tile.
3. In the “Personal Certificate” section, click on the “Apply” button.
4. The following HARICA login page will open:
In the search field, enter “Landshut University of Applied Sciences 2FA„ and select the relevant entry.
5. You will then be automatically redirected to the login page of the SSO portal at Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
Log in there using your university account.
6. Once you have successfully logged in, you will be automatically redirected back to HARICA and can continue with the application for your personal certificate.
7. In the left-hand menu, select ‘Email’, then choose the ‘Email-only’ option and finally click ‘Next’:
8. The correct method for email validation is already preselected; all you need to do here is click “Next”:
9. Tick the box to confirm and click “Submit”:
10. You will then receive an email. Click “Confirm” in the email, or if that doesn’t work, follow the instructions in the email:
11. Once your email address has been validated, you can set a password for the certificate and download it. To do this, click on the “Enroll your certificate” button in HARICA Manager → My Dashboard:
12. Download the certificate:
13. You will find a file named „Certificate.p12“ in your Downloads folder. You can install this file by double-clicking it. Then follow the instructions provided by your operating system. You will be prompted for the password from step 11:
Further information:
Authentication of the certificate holder is currently carried out via the existing employment relationship with Landshut University of Applied Sciences. No further identity checks are required. (See: https://doku.tid.dfn.de/de:dfnpki:tcs:usercert#identifizierung_und_dokumentation).
